Black Betty kept her name because it fits her perfectly—bold, memorable, and full of personality. She was named after the famous 1970s song “Black Betty” by Ram Jam, and honestly, it suits her like it was meant to be. She was also the very first cow we brought to the farm, so she’ll always have that special “original” place in the herd. Black Betty is a Highland micro miniature, solid black with warm brown highlights that show through in the light. From day one she was the baby of the farm—more like a little puppy than a cow—always right beside us wherever we went. Her attitude is unreal: super chill, like the world could be falling apart and she’d still be calm and unbothered. She’s also the most affectionate of the group and absolutely loves attention. If you’re petting another cow, she’ll come right up and give you a gentle headbutt as a reminder that she deserves some love too. Even though she’s the smallest in the herd, don’t underestimate her—when it comes to food, she’s all business. At feeding time, she’s the last one to leave, making sure she gets every single piece, even what falls onto the ground.
